🚀 Get, Set, Go
The ultimate race to save the planet has officially begun!
Mission: To achieve "net zero"
Time limit: 2050
Participants: The entire world
The world is racing to accelerate emissions reductions to limit the warming to 2 degrees Celsius or lower. Countries are investing in climate solutions to compete in devising and scaling solutions to fight climate change.
Last year the United States passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which offers to grow green businesses - A massive package that contains a whopping $369 billion in subsidies and tax breaks for renewables and electric vehicles.
Psst! But not everyone is thrilled about the race, especially China who's been dominating the clean energy scene.
The IRA seems to be designed to loosen China's grip on clean technology, particularly in the EV battery supply chain.
The fear of being displaced as a key supplier of clean technology and components for solar, wind, and batteries spurred some sour talks.
Now, European lawmakers are planning to step up their game and match the incentives offered by their American ally.
But is a clean energy race really the best way to tackle the current climate crisis?
And with more money and people pouring into climate solutions, is there a risk of conflicts among big powers?
While some argue friendly competition will drive progress faster, others believe collaboration is the key.
If countries can work together and allow access to each other's marketplaces and technology investments, we can truly make a difference in the race against climate change.
